At a young age, Matt's dad got him interested in martial arts and combining that with Matt's love of comic books and disdain for bullies he seemed destined for his role of empowering people through martial arts and showcasing his skills as a professional fighter. The moment he learned and started doing Jiu Jitsu, he felt like it was everything he wanted. Matt shares stories of his inspiring and incredible fights where he won including his legendary knockout of GSP, Georges St Pierre to win the UFC Welterweight championship. He even tells a not so well known story of a street altercation that changed the trajectory of his life and career forever proving sometimes things happen for a reason! In victory and defeat Matt Serra has always carried himself as a champion and professional, he still picked himself up and continued becoming stronger regardless of the outcome. Matt continued learning from those hardships and experiences, taking them as motivation and turning them into positives.

About Matt Serra:

Professor Matt Serra is the head instructor at both Serra BJJ Academies. Matt is a fourth-degree blackbelt under Master Renzo Gracie and was the first American to be awarded their black belt from Renzo. In his tenure as a high-level combat sports athlete, Matt has been an ADCC, Mundial, and UFC Champion. He holds notable wins over Chris Lytle, Frank Trigg, and Georges St. Pierre. In 2018 he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
